The Diocese of Edinburgh is one of the seven dioceses of the Episcopal Church in Scotland which is a province within the Anglican Communion. One of the diocesan bishops is elected Primus by the College of Bishops and acts as spokesperson (we do not have the post of Archbishop). The Governance, both in the Province and within the Diocese, is through a synodical system including a house of laity and a house of clergy. The structure and the committees within the Diocese of Edinburgh is set out on the Synodical Structure page, from where you can find out more about each committee. Within the Scottish Episcopal Church there are no suffragan bishops, a dean is appointed by the bishop, and provosts are “rectors” of the cathedrals. For most people the first point of contact is the Diocesan Administrator and the staff at the Diocesan Centre who will be able to answer any questions you may have which are not available from this website. Also detailed here are other diocesan positions which may not be covered elsewhere. |
